This story suggests that there were also sheep in the stable when Jesus was born since the shepherds were probably tending to their flock.
The final clue comes from the story of the Magi. In the Bible, the Magi bring gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh to baby Jesus. Frankincense and myrrh were both used to make perfume, so, likely, there were also other animals in the stable, such as camels or donkeys, that were used to transport these gifts.
So, based on these clues, it’s likely that the animals that were present at the birth of Jesus were sheep, shepherds, camels, and donkeys.

Another clue comes from the story of the three wise men, or the Magi, who brought gifts for Jesus. In the Bible, we read that they brought “gold, frankincense, and myrrh.” Frankincense is a resin that comes from trees, and myrrh is a resin that comes from plants. These gifts suggest that the wise men may have been traveling with animals, as it would have been difficult to carry large quantities of these resins without the help of pack animals.
So, while we can’t say for sure which animals were present at the birth of Jesus Christ, we can say that there is some evidence to suggest that animals may have been involved. Whether you believe that animals were present or not, there’s no denying that they play an important role in the Christmas story. After all, without animals like sheep and donkeys, we wouldn’t have the nativity scene that we all know and love.
